BetterBedderBureau |Findings |

The Plank from Brooklyn Bedding is a flippable mixed foam mattress . One side features two inches (2″) of gel-infused TitanFlex polyfoam; this side is considered ‘Firm.’ The other side has seven inches (7″) of high-density polyfoam; this side is considered ‘Extra Firm.’

Additionally, both sides have quilted top layers for extra padding; the ‘Firm’ side has one and a half inches (1.5″) of quilted material, while the ‘Extra Firm’ side has a quilted layer measuring three-quarters of an inch (.75″). The mattress also has a breathable cotton-polyester cover that is ideal for hot sleepers.

The Plank is one of the firmest mattresses on the market today. Both sides of the bed are suitable for anyone who prefers exceptionally firm surfaces. As a result, the mattress is suitable for many stomach sleepers and people in the heavy weight group (more than 230 pounds). The Plank has a below-average price-point compared to other foam beds, and Brooklyn Bedding offers a 120-night sleep trial and 10-year warranty for the mattress.

What Type of Sleeper Is Best Suited for a Plank?

Based on our customer feedback, Plank mattresses have received the following grades among sleepers of different weights and preferred sleep positions. Please note that these ratings are subjective, and that everyone has varying experiences on different mattresses. Sleeper comfort and spinal support are the most important factors when it comes to selecting a mattress.

The flippable Plank mattress has ‘Firm’ and ‘Extra Firm’ sides. As you can see, the mattress has earned positive ratings from heavier individuals and stomach sleepers – two groups that tend to prefer firmer beds. The Plank is 11.5 inches thick, making it a good option for sleepers who prefer mattresses with average thickness profiles.

For more information on sleeping positions please see our guides for side, back, stomach and combination sleepers.

Durability 4 – The Plank Mattress has a longer-than-average lifespan; this is typical for firmer mattresses, which are less susceptible to sagging than their softer counterparts.
Motion Isolation 4 – Like other all-foam beds, the Plank absorbs and minimizes motion transfer to a noticeable extent, making it a good choice for couples.
Off-gassing 4 – The Plank may off-gass when new, but odors generally dissipate in a matter of days and long-term problems have not been reported.
Conforming 2 – The Plank does not conform very much, even for heavier individuals, which is to be expected of an extremely firm mattress.
Sex 4 – The Plank is quite firm so not really responsive as much as hard compared to most softer all-foam beds.
Temperature Neutrality 4 – The Plank sleeps fairly cool compared to other all-foam beds, due in part to its breathable cotton-poly cover.
Edge Support 4 – The Plank offers stronger edge support than most of its all-foam competitors.
Noise 4 – The Plank produces virtually no noise when bearing weight.
